6-second collage #

Upon opening the New Yorker today
noticed an uncanny echo of my Virgin Mary post
of a couple days ago.

There's something about a snake
and a pretty girl
I suppose.

I have sampled a small portion of the whole photograph
(2008 by Tina Barney: "Family Commission with Snake")

but the comparison resonates with the whole.

The snake is a free-floating element
with everything else in the picture.

We are floating in space!

Then we return to forever.

Merry Snakesmas

This little event card
printed in Italy in 1971
is a funeral announcement.
It's such a nice little image of the Virgin Mary.

But why is she standing on a snake?

I've been thinking of Mary

lately

wondering why she didn't just say

No
Thank you.
I prefer to remain
immaculately
unconceived
.

Same painting: 2 different book covers

I'd never seen the British edition
of this novel until recently. (On the left.)
Maybe I would have liked the novel more if I had read that edition.
