A. Bray Foundation in the afternoon.

One of the great pleasures of visiting "the Bray" is seeing the cast off work strewn about the grounds.

Everywhere you look there are beautiful remnants.

Clay making its way back into the earth.

i think this reveals a certain cowardice amongst modern american potters
and this is no slight matter
why can't they just smash the unwanted pots
in acknowledgemnt of the inferiority of their efforts

but no
they have to leave them out for people to see
fishing with the odd chance
that these insignificant efforts in the ancient craft might perchance be attractive to someone

and we all just go along with it
like it's harmless or something
but hey
this is what's wrong with the whole damn world is it not
we overlook these little almost invisible indiscretions
as having no weight for proper consideration and then what's next

like
what if ford motor company just left the unsold cars in the parking lot

i'm wondering if these potters perhaps treat their friends the same way
they decide something is wrong and they just leave them out in the rain and the sun
as if they were dirt

it is high time to reacquaint the pottery world with some dignity and integrity

let's start doing things right again for god's sake

destroy those damn pots
