Xmas 2005

Samuel Butler: "A sense of humour keen enough to show a man his own absurdities as well as those of other people will keep a man from the commission of all sins, or nearly all, save those that are worth committing."

(Perhaps the Cardinal Zin of Bonny Doon.)

What shall we listen for as we enter the concert hall called 2-double-oh-6?

Let us visit the vast music hall of the future.

What are years? What is time? Etc.

And so: Forth. Louis Zukofsky. Mina Loy. Wittgenstein. John Zorn.

A concerto for Spoken Word and Orchestra of the World

Let's see what becomes of us in 2 thousand and six

in one of my many conceptions i had organized a musical work which would call for a series of phrases to be played at only a given time - say 4:44pm or 11:57pm. no matter where the piece was to be played certain passages would be limited to a very defined chronological determinant. musicians would have to agree that it would be worth ending a concert at ten, and then return at 11:45pm to play perhaps to an empty hall the final 3 minutes of melody beginning at 11:57pm. my goal: wrench musical performance from the accepted time slots
